1. First, log in to your Blackboard account and navigate to the video file you want to caption.

8. Review your captions to ensure they are accurate and synchronized with the video.
9. Click on the “Publish” button to publish your video with the captions. You can also publish it as a Youtube video.

What are Caption Types?

There are three main types of captions:

1. Open captions: These are captions that are permanently embedded in the video and cannot be turned off. Open captions are useful when the video is meant to be viewed with captions and the creator wants to ensure that everyone who watches the video will see them.
2. Closed captions: These are captions that can be turned on or off by the viewer. Closed captions are useful when the video is intended for a broad audience. Not all versions of media players support closed captions. Closed captions are also useful for accessibility purposes, as they allow viewers who are deaf or hard of hearing to understand the content.
3. Subtitles: Subtitles are similar to closed captions, but they only display the dialogue and do not include other audio cues like sound effects or music descriptions. Subtitles are commonly used for foreign language films or videos that are being translated into another language as transcribed. Unlike closed captions, subtitles are not necessarily meant for accessibility purposes.
4. Audio descriptions: They are part of open or closed captions. They can fill in missing information a narrator fails to provide.
